2015 Hymn Calendar

I’m so happy to share with you the 2015 calendar! It’s 12 months of some of my favorite hymns! I always seem to run really behind on starting on my calendar. I just sent it to the printer a week ago and got a proof today from my printer. I’m so happy with the color and quality. You can preorder the calendar on etsy for $18 with free U.S. shipping. The calendars will ship by November 1st. I’m also running a special – buy two calendars, get one teeeny print free!

I think the hardest thing on this project was deciding on which hymns to pick. SO here are the  hymns that I picked for the calendar.

january through junejulythrudec

Here are the backs of the each month – filled with bright colorful patterns that are perfect for you to reuse once 2015 is over.

I’ve been overwhelmed with the response to preorder. I thought I might get 10 preorders, and I’m still shocked at the number of orders that have been placed. I had to bump up my order from my printer! And I’m thinking about doing another hymn calendar for 2016, because there are a still a lot of hymns that I need to draw. I will also be turning a lot of these hymns into art prints before Christmas so be sure to be on the lookout for that!

BUT I still need YOUR help getting the word out! If you are a fan of hymns, would you share with your friends and family? Or let me know a Christian blog that might be interested in the calendar! I would normally submit my calendar to a few design blogs, but I honestly don’t know if I’ll get the press because it’s Christian content.

2014 Irish Blessings Calendar

I’m so pleased to share with you the 2014 Irish Blessings Calendar! It’s for sale in my etsy shop now for just $18 with FREE U.S. SHIPPING! This is a very personal project to me. I dedicated this calendar to my half Irish grandmother. I’m so happy with how the calendar turned out. I’ll share with you a few extra photos that I wasn’t able to list on etsy! I will be listing a larger wall calendar of this hopefully later this week!

2014 Irish Blessings Preview

The idea for this calendar hit me one morning in early August while fixing my coffee. I had been playing with the idea of a Rain calendar. But the imagery had a long way to go. But then Irish Blessings hit me in the FACE. My great grandfather immigrated from Northern Ireland to America after World War 1. Our family inherited the estate when his sisters died so I grew up with Irish postcards, linens, even a piano from Ireland! I was named after my great great great(?) aunt Kate. And my middle name is my grandmother’s maiden name McCann. Apparently I inherited the pale skin, green eyes, and dark hair. I grew up with a bunch of my Irish books that my grandmother would collect. St. Patrick’s Day was a BIG deal at their house, too! All that to say, I knew ALL about Irish sayings and blessings. The WORDS are so happy and uplifting, I just had to use them. I’m in the final stages, hopefully sending the files to my printer tomorrow. I wanted to share a few of the patterns and blessings for you.

ALSO the calendar is a progression of a RAINBOW! Starts with red-violet in January and ends with Red in December! Because what is more Irish than a rainbow?!?! Okay, maybe a shamrock is, but you get it. 🙂

I promise to put the calendar on etsy as SOON as I get it back from the printer! And may the luck of the Irish be with you! 😉

California Living

I got to tag along with Dave last week for the annual Automattic grand meetup in SANTA CRUZ, CA! (Everyone that works for Automattic is fully distributed (can live anywhere in the world) but they meet once a year for a week.) The two best things about the trip was getting to hang out with sea lions and Dave’s coworkers! I got to hang out with a bunch of the Automattic designers who live all over the world… Portugal, Denmark, England, Australia, etc. This company is stacked to the brim with world class talent. It was so fun to get to be around that. And I was filled with such pride of how talented my husband is. It was music to my hears to hear a few of his coworkers speak so highly of his work. I wish I loved code and designing for the internet, because then I would totally apply to work there. There is a new book just released by a writer who worked for Automattic. Dave got us copies and I can’t wait to read it!

Okay enough of that. Let’s get to the most important part. SEA LIONS!

Underneath the Santa Cruz Wharf are so many sea lions! I kept saying thousands, but Dave kept telling me it was probably hundreds. But to make it a better story, I’m going to go with THOUSANDS. You can hear them talking from far away. They kept saying, “Kate! Come see us!” I took over a hundred photos of sea lions. We don’t exactly have wild sea lions in the South. It’s not everyday I get to out to California so I had to take advantage of it.

I mean… LOOK how many sea lions are in this picture!!! Amazing.

And this one totally waved at me! He was just chilling out but then saw me! He turned over and started waving his fin! AH!

This one is a model.

We rented a car on Saturday to visit Carmel and Monterey! Is this my life?! We visited Point Lobos State Park. If you are ever near there, GO! It was amazing to see such beautiful beaches and Pacific Coast wildlife.

You can borrow binoculars from the visitor’s station. Here’s Dave looking at the thousands of sea lions covering those rocks. Yes those rocks are covered in sea lions. I couldn’t believe it. Best thing ever? YES.

We saw porpoises, seals, and sea otters. And we heard people had seen whales earlier that day so we stayed a long time looking. I finally saw some spouts and massive fins coming out from near the horizon! I saw humpback whales!

While Dave was at “work,” I spent most of my time working on my 2014 calendar! I realize it should have been done in August, but I’ve had a busy few months. I knew what it was going to be a few months ago, but I didn’t want to tell anyone online because I haven’t seen it done well yet. I’ve drawn everything except the patterns for the backs of the pages. I have a busy week ahead working to get this ready for the printer. I hope to have it ready by the first of next week to send to print. Here is a sneak peek. You’re seeing the raw, unedited version. You might notice a few typos in there! Thank goodness for my computer!

2013 Little Things Studio Calendar

I’m so proud to finally share with you my 2013 calendar 365 DAYS OF SUNSHINE!!! I worked for 2 1/2 months with countless drawings and ideas, and a folder full of work.

I knew early that I wanted 2013 to be about sunshine. But I wasn’t sure on the direction. I started with folk art drawings then moved on to sketches and lots of texture. Then I started to think if the sun could make music, what would it sound like. I thought about different times of day and different seasons. I did not want to make the typical sun with rays, because that’s been done. I wanted you to feel the sun.

I was able to get this calendar offset printed (meaning commercial quality) on 100 lb. cover weight paper. I can’t tell you how bright and beautiful the yellow is. Y’all, yellow is TOUGH to print. It’s tough to get the right shade of yellow. And my printer nailed it! I couldn’t be more pleased! They are 8×10 in. (Twice the size of last year! AH!) It’s 7 pages (printed front and back) with a cover. Includes twine for hanging.

And to all my fellow quote lovers, YES, there is one quote in this calendar, but I’m not letting you see it until the calendar is in your hands. And it’s a really really good one?

You can PREORDER the calendar now. It might be a few more days until it’s ready, but I just HAD to go ahead and share it with you!!! We will send you a note letting you know the day we ship it (and Mom and I will do our best to get it in your hands as soon as we can!)

Detail shots below.

I hope 2013 is filled with bright and beautiful sunshine for you!
