Renegade Austin Recap Round Two

Okay this will be my last post on Renegade Austin. But I just have to tell y’all it just really was a life changing experience for me. My friends were so tired of listening to me worry about going. This is what I want to be doing now. I want to stay with Renegade. I want to make a living doing Little Things Studio. And I am pretty sure that’s what I’m going to do. I met so amazing people. I made friends with really talented craftsmen and artists. And they are so welcoming and nice. I was shocked when so many of them wanted to trade with me. I came back to ole Yazoo City with so much coooooool stuff and my head full of ideas. Those were the best five days.

I didn’t get the chance to take that many pictures of all the amazing booths, so I’ve just pulled from other feeds and images. So here we go.

Andrew Le is the reason I was able to do Renegade. He brought his letterpress to Renegade and he, Tim and Dave printed custom coasters the entire two days. And they printed a set of yellow cat coasters for me!  I had told Andrew before that if you made anything with a cat on it, it would sell out because I would buy every single one of them!

I became friends with Nikki from the Gleeful Peacock, because I became friends with her really cool daughter Rae. I got to trade for some beautiful jewelry and a yellow flower headband. She is soooooo incredibly nice and so very talented. I love her work. Go buy it on etsy now!

Okay this next one… Get ready. Molly McGrath is one of the coolest artists. She makes beautiful jewelry. She made me the CUTEST custom yellow necklace! My fingers are crossed that I get to do another craft show with her.

This is Erin from Sunshine & Carousels. She is also from Tulsa (with Gleeful Peacock) and she is so nice. I love all of her hair pieces. So we have got to work on a trade in the future, because I need this yellow chevron heart, because that is just sooooo me. Go shopping on her etsy.

I was just so lucky to be there at Renegade. I’m so thankful for the opportunity. I am really looking to do more, so get ready, Chicago! I’m looking at you next in September!

 

Renegade Austin Recap

Renegade Craft is just about the coolest thing out there, if you ask me. They support artists and crafters who want to make a living doing what they love. They support and promote their artists. They are the Neiman Marcus in terms of quality and excellence for craft festivals. I believe every other craft festival should follow the business model of Renegade. I really do. They do it right. And they bring in the best of the best artists and craftsmen. I am still so honored that I had this opportunity to show in Austin. I was so nervous about doing it, because there are SO many great booths there.

But you can’t stay in your corner for forever. You have to get out there and live. So this was it for me. I was scared but I did it. I met so many amazing people. My booth stayed really busy. I even got to meet the Renegade team!!!!! They are rock stars to me. And they are some of the nicest and most encouraging people. I will post later this week about all the cool artists I’ve become friends with. For now, I wanted you to see photos my booth setup with all my yellow balloons.

This is Saturday morning before the crowd, with my best friends Dave & Tim. My other friend Andrew was busy working on his booth setup, so I didn’t get him in the picture. (He rocked it. Can’t wait to show pics!)

And I made friends with Rae (her mother is the Gleeful Peacock). She was manning her mother’s booth while I was on a break browsing around. We started talking, and I immediately knew this was my kind of girl. She hung out with me at my booth all day Sunday. She kept me laughing the entire time. She’s my new pen pal.

And this is the awesome Sarah Spies from Renegade. She is so cool, y’all.

 

 

Andrew Le

Andrew Le is just one of my favorite people. Witty, clever, and talented. And what some of you might not know is he’s really got a soft spot for his friends. He has been a very good friend to me over the years. He lives in Austin, Texas, being just awesome there. We talk on iChat everyday now, thankfully. (It’s lonely here in Yazoo City!) I love going “shopping” with him online. We send each other links on stuff we want to buy. We bought the same paper cutter which we both highly recommend!

He graduated a year ahead of me in school. His work always inspires me. He’ll always be one of those designers I just look up to. I can’t do what he does. His style is very clean. He’s great at type. His copy is so clever. He’s just a master at what he does. There is no way for me to put all of his work on here. There is nothing this guy touches that isn’t amazing: photography, songwriting and playing, letterpress, video.

So here is a very limited sampling. This is the Valentine’s series. He started off giving these out to friends, but now letterpresses some of the prints. They are for sale in his shop! And check out all of his work!!!

Here are some of my favorites.

  • It’s 2011. You can stop posting fake vintage, square photos now.
  • Looking forward to 2011′s portmanteau offerings for women’s leggings.
  • I predicted the rise of the ninjas, pirates, and lumberjack… and I think the next big thing is going to be private detectives.
  • I can’t remember people’s names, but I never forget a typeface.
  • I know some of you guys don’t care, but this new Gap logo is like the graphic designers’ Gulf Oil Spill.
  • Hipsters lead to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

Okay. Now this next one probably needs some explanation. Andrew loves to ask anyone this question: If you put 5 elephants against 5,000 poodles, who would win?

You’ve got to watch this video. It’s Andrew interviewing everyone around the art department. Oh my goodness this makes me miss everyone so much!
