New Print – Joyful Joyful

I have a new print up in my etsy shop! I have been reading several books on Oriental rugs. This drawing was inspired by that. And the birds that are in the middle are roosters. I have three different color versions. I am currently only putting two of the colors in the shop. If you are interested in the cooler/blue tones, email me at kate {at} ktyazoo dot com.

Here is muted one. And the listing for the bright red. It’s an 11×17 inch print, on Starch White French Speckletone paper. It sells for $20.

Quilt kick

However old lady and outdated it may sound, I have just been really into quilt design lately. They are beautiful y’all. There is something so comforting about a quilt. It says home and family to me. I don’t want to learn how to make a quilt. I just want to enjoy them.

I am not planning on making any. I just want to enjoy them. But my work right now is heavily influenced by quilts. There might be in the next Repeat book a whole section on quilt patterns.

If you are New York City or are traveling to New York City, the American Folk Art Museum is having a FREE show “Infinite Variety” of SIX HUNDERED & FIFTY red and white quilts at the Park Avenue Amory. It starts TODAY and ends the on the 30th. If you go see it, please let me know. I want to know all about it. I wish I was going to be there to see it.

Photos shown are from the American Folk Art Museum’s flickr.

Quilts

While I was in New York, I got to see an amazing quilt exhibition at the American Folk Art Museum. It was incredible. I posted a few pictures from the exhibit on my flickr page. I would literally live in this museum if I could. I just wished I was one of those really rich donors that could just say “take me to the archives, please.” I can only imagine the amazing art hidden in their storage.

Last night I was just sitting around in my room because that’s what I do these days in Yazoo City. So I cleaned off my painting table (took about an hour because I live in cramped quarters right now!) and turned on some Dexter and decided to pull out my paints. I painted four 5×5 in paintings of some of my quilt inspired doodles. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with them yet. It just felt so good to paint again.

Oh! And I’m sure you were wondering how Weezie behaved with me painting with watercolors. (We all know how much she loves to play with water and paper!) She behaved like a little angel once I shooed her away from the water bucket. She just sat and watched me the entire time. She’s my perfect little punkin.

I heart NYC

I don’t know how to put into words how amazing it was that I went to New York City. I’m in love with this city. And I’m really in love with the pizza!!!! I got back on Saturday and I’ve been walking around for the past few days going “did that really happen?” I hope to post more about the trip soon.

Baby Announcement – Harris Cash Wiggins

This has been my favorite project since I’ve graduated. My friends Kathryn & John Wiggins asked me to do their baby announcement! I am so happy for them! They are some of the nicest people I know. I think the world of them. And I couldn’t be happier for them. Harris is the cutest baby.

The cards are 5×7 inches, printed on French Speckletone Starch White paper. And we used French’s Poptone gumdrop green for envelopes.

Kathryn is an amazing painter. Expect a post about her soon! You can view her work here. And do not pass up her online shop at etsy. I want to own every one of her paintings.
